The Story Of Samudra Manthan To Obtain The Nectar Of Immortality

Let me tell you a story about how the Gods and the Demons churned the milky ocean to obtain the Nectar Of Immortality !     Once upon a time, due to the curse of a Sage named Durvasa , the Gods had lost their strength and lost the battle with the Demons. The Gods then went to Lord Vishnu for help. Lord Vishnu who always helps his devotees, instructed them to go to the Demons and ask them to join them to obtain the Nectar Of Immortality by churning the milky ocean and share it among themselves. Lord Vishnu told the Gods that he would make sure that only the Gods get the nectar. When the Gods approached the Demons, they readily agreed since they were also eager to become immortal! This process of churning the ocean to obtain this immortality nectar is called " Samudra Manthan ". For churning of the ocean they needed a churning rod and a rope. They used the " Mandara Mountain " as the rod and a snake named " Vasuki " which resides on Lord Shiva...

What Is Reiki?

When I tell people that I am a Reiki Healer , most of them ask me what it is. So, I thought of making this Post for you to get a basic understanding of what it is all about. Reiki is actually a Japanese technique for making use of the " Universal Energy " to heal yourself both physically and mentally. What do I mean by " Universal Energy "? Well, most of us would have studied in our school days that Energy can neither be created, nor be destroyed and that it is present everywhere and in everything. It is present everywhere in the Universe! Through Reiki you can make use of this Universal Energy to heal yourself. How do I use " Reiki "  to heal myself? You cannot directly make use of this Universal Energy to heal yourself. You need a " Reiki Master " to attune you. What do I mean by " Reiki Master " and what do I mean by " Attunement "? Let's just say a Reiki Master is a person who is trained in an adv...

10 Lessons from The Isha Upanishad

LESSON 1:  DO NOT RUN AFTER WEALTH AND PRACTICE RENUNCIATION The first sloka in this Upanishad states that in this universe, everything changes except our true Self.To explain this, an example of a snake and a rope is given. When you see a rope in the dark, you might mistake it for a snake but when you turn on the lights, you get to know that it's just a rope! The snake exists because of the rope and it ceases to exist once the lights are turned on. Similarly, when you realize your true Self, this universe ceases to exist and you do not feel like running after materialistic things like money, house etc.. To know your true Self is the goal of life and to realize it, you must practice renunciation. LESSON 2:  ENJOY LIFE BUT DO NOT GET ATTACHED TO THE END RESULT The previous sloka asks us to renounce this world. But, this sloka states that those people who are unable to renounce this world, can enjoy their life by just doing their duty as long as they are not a...

You Don't Need A Career To Succeed!

Here I am sitting in my terrace, sipping a cup of tea and watching the sunset in all it's glory and enjoying every minute of my life! If you had asked me as to what I was doing at the same time two months ago, I would say travelling by bus back home from work feeling lethargic, irritated, hungry and angry! I used to spend six hours a day travelling to work and back home! I wondered if this is what life was all about? I wanted to live my life travelling to different places and experiencing new cultures and living life to it's fullest! So, I decided to quit my job. After I had applied for my resignation, the HR comes up to me says, "We are really disappointed in you, we want more Women to succeed". After hearing to this statement, I just nodded my head but inside I was exploding, "Really?!" "So you measure someone's success by this and wasn't that a sexist comment?!". Then, I thought there was no point in arguing with her and maybe that...

The Secret Behind Our Existence!

What is the secret behind our existence? I am pretty sure all of us have asked this question one time or the other in our lives. Recently, I went through a video about how our Universe was formed. In that video, it said that " Big Bang " was the beginning of our Universe, which I found to be very atrocious! How can such beautiful creations be formed of only dust?! So, I turned towards our scriptures! In my recent past, I have gained a huge interest in reading about our Hindu Scriptures! I have read 7 Puranas: Brahma, Kurma, Varaha, Shiva, Vishnu, Vamana and Srimad Bhagavatam , 4 Upanishands: Isha, Kena, Aitareya and Katha and the Bhagavad Gita . All of these scriptures have the answers to not only how the Universe was formed but also how it will exist and how it will get destroyed! But I do not want to talk about the formation or the destruction of our Universe, but want to talk about something more important! The most powerful lesson that I have learnt from th...
